ZERO
The video work features a series of characters addressing the viewer from paper notices placed on a concrete wall. Each speaks a different language and performs a countdown from ten to zero. After a brief pause, the sequence starts again. The repetition turns individual voices into a rhythmic flow, merging them into a single sound pulse.
The project reflects on the influence of mass media on collective consciousness. The artist examines the information environment as a system of continuous production and consumption of data, where news, advertising, and political messaging form part of a unified sound and visual field that shapes everyday perception. The simultaneous counting by all participants evokes the operation of an industrial mechanism, where a person becomes an element within a structure that constantly reproduces information.
The work raises questions about the position of the individual within this system — about the possibility of maintaining autonomy and critical awareness amid constant external influence. The countdown becomes a metaphor for striving toward “zero” — a state of inner silence and resistance to imposed meanings.
