The exhibition is a solo project by the young video artist Maxim Tatarintsev. The presentation includes works created between 2014 and 2020, as well as a newly edited version of a piece based on footage originally recorded in 2013. The concept of duration is essential both to the process of creating a video work and to its perception — time being one of the defining elements of the medium itself.
Some of the works function as projected video-memories, echoing the documentary nature of video and focusing on the recording of real events, places, and people. Another part of the exhibition, Chronometry, consists of works that combine the language of video with techniques of photographic collage. In these pieces, the visual narrative is closely linked to the artist’s surrealistic vision.
Across all of these works, the defining element is Maxim Tatarintsev’s distinctive perception of reality, through which he constructs a version of the surrounding world that exists between reality and illusion. Sound plays an important expressive role in his installations, often drawing on the legacy of experimental music. Chronometry projects the artist’s personal view of contemporary life directly onto its real-time components, transforming not only the gallery space but also the inner world of every attentive and engaged viewer.
