The Third Truth

The Third Truth

2018

The starting point of this project is the daily newspapers “Komsomolskaya Pravda” from Moscow and “Bild” from Berlin. Both are among the largest tabloids in their respective countries and target a similar social audience. “The Third Truth” is a collaborative project between two artists: one based in Moscow and the other in Berlin. Each day, they exchanged news found in these newspapers, creating an act of informational substitution: stories from “Bild” appeared in “KP,” and vice versa. This exchange exposed new layers of meaning, revealing unexpected connections and underscoring the constructed nature of media reality. Through this process, a “third truth” emerged — a hybrid space where two different information streams intersect and are reinterpreted.

The project is presented as an installation composed of original newspaper pages and a video work. The video shows everyday scenes from Berlin, while the audio was recorded simultaneously in different areas of Moscow. The image and sound do not match, creating a perceptual dissonance that destabilizes interpretation. This disconnect highlights the gap between visual and semantic realities, raising questions about trust, context, and the shifting nature of information in the age of global media.
